rehairThe tip of your bow, referred to as the ivory tip (now made from mastodon), can crack or break off from time to time from simple wear and tear. A new one can be fit to the bow to look just as it did before.

What to Expect:

While some tips found on factory produced bows are made of plastic, most handmade bows will have an ivory tip. Laws governing international trade make ivory tips a problem. Bow makers now use mastadon ivory which has all the characteristics of elephant ivory and in some player's opinion actually looks more beautiful. We will custom fit your new tip from a raw blank of mastadon ivory. While this is a relatively expensive repair, it is not something that can be neglected and should be repaired as soon as possible to avoid damage to the exposed wood.

Ivory Tip (mastodon):
$250.00 for any Violin, Viola, Cello, or Bass bow.
